NOJHL announces Eastlink TV 3 Stars of the Week

SUDBURY – The Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League announced Monday that a trio of forwards in Dustin Cordeiro of the Cochrane Crunch along with Nicolas Tassone and Nicolas Sicoly of the Soo Thunderbirds have been named the Eastlink TV 3 Stars of the week for the period concluding Oct. 19.

DUSTIN CORDEIRO, (F) COCHRANE CRUNCH – The 19-year-old Kitchener, Ont., product had another big weekend offensively for the Crunch helping his side sweep a home-and-home with Abitibi.

In those two outings Cordeiro scored five times and set-up three others for an eight-point week.

He is currently riding a seven-game point streak and has also etched his name on the score sheet in all but one of 13 contests he has played in so far this season.

Cordeiro has also taken over the NOJHL point lead with 26 and is tops in tallies with 19.

NICOLAS TASSONE, (F) SOO THUNDERBIRDS – A solid offensive player for his hometown Sault Ste. Marie side, Tassone registered points in all three of the Thunderbirds games last week helping them extend a season-high winning streak to nine.

On a three-game road swing Tassone scored three times and doled out four assists as the T-Birds skated to a triumph in Blind River as well as two wins in Mattawa.

With a 10-game point streak intact the 20-year-old forward has moved into a tie for fourth in league scoring with 23 total points.

Tassone has only failed to pick up a point in just one game so far during the 2014-15 campaign.

NICOLAS SICOLY, (F) SOO THUNDERBIRDS – As one of the youngest skaters in the entire NOJHL, the 16-year-old Sicoly continues to impress.

His latest offensive outburst came this past week as he found the back of the net four times while adding three helpers aiding in Sault. Ste. Marie’s road sweep.

Sicoly has jumped into a tie for seventh in league scoring with 19 points.

He also shares seventh in goals scored with Tassone as the T-Birds tandem has notched 10 apiece.

Furthermore Sicoly has a six-game point streak on the go heading into play this week.
