NOJHL announces management team/coaching staff for Eastern Canada All-Star Challenge Cup
SUDBURY – The Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League announced Wednesday its management team and coaching staff for the upcoming Eastern Canada All-Star Jr. A Challenge, which goes Nov. 14-16, in Cornwall, Ont.
Serving as director of operations for Team NOJHL will be Jim Bruce of the Powassan Voodoos.
Powassan’s Scott Wray has been selected the head coach of Team NOJHL while Moe Mantha and Kyle Brick, the respective bench bosses of the French River Rapids and Blind River Beavers, will work as assistant coaches for the team.
Also on the Team NOJHL staff will be athletic trainer J.J. Johnson of the Voodoos while Brian Workman of the Rayside-Balfour Canadians will serve as equipment manager.
Rounding out the staff is Lisa Parise of Rayside-Balfour who is on board in her trainer and equipment manager capacities.
The event will feature all five Eastern members of the Canadian Junior Hockey League taking part.
Joining the NOJHL in Cornwall will be all-star squads from the host Central Canada Hockey League, the Ontario Junior Hockey League, Quebec Junior Hockey League and the Maritime Hockey League.
“Set to enter its sixth year, the Eastern Canada All-Star Jr. A Challenge is one of the premier showcase events in all of the 10-league CJHL,” stated league commissioner Robert Mazzuca.
“This fast-paced, highly-skilled, best-on-best tournament will once again offer a tremendous opportunity for the players on Team NOJHL to showcase their talents vs. elite Jr. A competition in front of the plethora of scouts that will be on hand ranging from the NHL, NCAA & CIS programs and the Canadian Hockey League,” added Mazzuca.
The players that will comprise the NOJHL roster for the three-day event will be selected by the team director of operations along with the coaching staff.
Alsoaiding in the selection of Team NOJHL will be North American Central Scouting President Mark Sidel, former Soo Thunderbirds general manager Kevin Cain, ex-Blind River Beavers GM Rusty Joncas and former Kirkland Lake Gold Miners assistant coach Tom Sinclair.
The announcement on the Team NOJHL roster is expected to be made by the end of October while the Eastern Canada All-Star Jr. A Challenge game schedule will be announced in the coming weeks.
