NOJHL has presence among CJHL elite

SUDBURY – A number of Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League teams and players are statistically among the elite in the 128-team Canadian Junior Hockey League as their numbers would indicate.

WINNING PERCENTAGE: The NOJHL currently boasts two clubs in the top 10 in the CJHL in winning percentage.

With a .840 win mark, the Kirkland Lake Gold Miners enter play this week fourth nationally while the Soo Thunderbirds sit tied for seventh at .815.

The following is the list of the top 10 CJHL clubs in terms of winning percentage.

SOO STOPPERS: The Soo Thunderbirds netminding tandem of Joel Horodziejczyk are both presently in the top 15 in the CJHL in goals-against average.

Horodziejczyk’s 1.67 GAA is the third best nationally among those goaltenders who have seen at least 480 minutes of game time so far in the 2013-14 campaign.

Teammate Brian Kment is tied for 11th in the CJHL with an average of 2.13.

TOP SCORERS: Offensively the Espanola Rivermen are one of three teams across the CJHL to boast three players among the top five point producers in their respective leagues.

Brennen Dubchak, Corbin Bean and Brandon Janke are the trio that rank among the leading scorers in the NOJHL sitting first, tied for second and fourth respectively.

The Dieppe Commnados (MHL) and the Fort Frances Lakers (SIJHL) make-up the other two teams with skaters in the top five scorers in their leagues.
