NOJHL names its 3 Stars of the Week

SUDBURY, Ont. – The Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League (NOJHL) announced Monday that the forward trio of Mathieu Comeau (Hearst Lumberjacks); Cameron Menard (Espanola Paper Kings) and Caleb Dawson (Powassan Voodoos) have been named its 3 Stars of the Week for the period ending September 28.

Mathieu Comeau, (F) Hearst Lumberjacks – Helping lead his club to a trio of road victories over the weekend, the Lumberjacks’ captain tallied in each contest, collecting four in total, including notching a game-winner, and dished out three assists.

Having just turned 20 on Saturday, Comeau has now posted five multi-point performances in succession and has moved into fourth spot in overall scoring with 15 points through eight outings with seven markers and eight helpers.

The Hearst product, who played previously with the Kapuskasing Flyers in the Great North U18 Hockey League, is the current active NOJHL leader in career games played (218); goals (85); assists (144) and points (229).

Cameron Menard, (F) Espanola Paper Kings – A seven-point week saw the 19-year-old from West Carleton, Ont., continue his impressive start to the campaign.

Menard scored in each of Espanola’s three matchups over the time frame and helped set-up four more to slide into a tie for second place in league offensive production with 17 total points.

A member of Team Canada East at last year’s Junior A World Challenge, Menard has scored in all eight games the Paper Kings have played to date. That matches the longest NOJHL goal streak from the 2024-25 season where Ben Pouliot also tallied in eight in a row with the Soo Eagles.

Caleb Dawson, (F) Powassan Voodoos – Dawson’s contributions on the ice saw him collect eight points last week for the Voodoos that featured a career single-game high four in a triumph versus Iroquois Falls.

The 19-year-old from nearby North Bay found the back of the net in each of the three contests Powassan played, picking up five in all, including the game-winner in a road victory at Kirkland Lake. He also assisted on the decider in the result over the Storm.

An alumnus of the North Bay Trappers minor hockey program, Dawson currently sits in a share for ninth in NOJHL scoring with 10 points in six games and is well on pace to set personal single-season bests in goals; assists and points.
