NOJHL names its Eastlink TV 3 Stars of the Week

SUDBURY, Ont. – The Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League announced Monday that forward Tyler Schwindt and defenceman Eric Moreau of the Timmins Rock as well as first-year Blind River Beavers forward Devin Mauro have been named its Eastlink TV 3 Stars of the Week for the period ending March 21.

TYLER SCHWINDT, (F) TIMMINS ROCK – In a trio of Timmins’ triumph last week, Schwindt scored in each of them as part of an overall 10-point performance.

The 20-year-old product of New Hamburg, Ont., supplied six goals and dished out four assists in the three Rock victories to help pace his side offensively.

This included a five-point effort on Friday, which was a personal single-game high, surpassing the four he had in his previous contest.

Now playing at just over a point-per-game pace for Timmins, Schwindt has 18 in 17 outings, including a dozen tallies, as he looks to surpass the career-best 15 he had last season with four contests remaining.

DEVIN MAURO, (F) BLIND RIVER BEAVERS – In three meetings against the rival Soo Thunderbirds last week, he had points in each of them as the Beavers took two of three in the time frame.

After an assist in a road setback Thursday, Mauro scored once and added the difference maker in the shootout in a home ice triumph Saturday.

The 16-year-old native of Sault Ste. Marie, Ont., then capped off his offensive efforts by providing the game-winning goal and helping set-up another marker Sunday.

Currently riding a five-game point streak, Mauro leads all NOJHL rookies in offensive production with 19 points in 18 games on seven goals and 12 assists.

ERIC MOREAU, (D) TIMMINS ROCK – Contributing at both ends of the ice, the Rock blueliner had a trio of two-point performances and was solid defensively in all three Timmins’ wins vs. Cochrane last week, helping his club allow only three goals against.

The 19-year-old rearguard from Penetanguishene, Ont., provided a pair of tallies and four helpers in the three decisions for his side.

Sporting points in four straight as well as in five of six, Moreau doubled his season totals during the week and now has 11 points in 18 games, including four markers.

A veteran of 121 league contests with the Rock, Moreau boasts five goals and 31 assists from the back-end for his side.
