NOJHL names its Eastlink TV 3 Stars of the Week

SUDBURY, Ont. – The Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League announced Monday that Jonathan Lush (Espanola Paper Kings); Pierson Sobush, (F) Greater Sudbury Cubs and Billy Biedermann (Greater Sudbury Cubs) have been named its Eastlink TV 3 Stars of the Week, for the period wrapping up December 11.

JONATHAN LUSH, (F) ESPANOLA PAPER KINGS – Playing a part in seven of the nine goals Espanola notched in their two road victories last week, Lush tallied three times, including collecting a game-winner, and dished out four assists.

Included in this for the 20-year-old from Pickering, Ont., was a single-game high five points in a win at Elliot Lake Friday.

The offensive contributions for Lush has seen him move into third spot in team scoring on the Paper Kings as he now has 20 points, in 27 outings, on six markers and 14 helpers.

PIERSON SOBUSH, (F) GREATER SUDBURY CUBS – Becoming the first player to score four goals in a game this season, while adding another marker, along with an assist, a game later saw Sobush provide another productive week for league-leading Greater Sudbury.

His first period natural hat trick Thursday, which featured the game-winner, was part of a performance that saw the 18-year-old from Sudbury move into a share of top spot in NOJHL tallies with Brady Harroun of Timmins.

With goals in five straight match-ups and nine in his past 10, Sobush now has a personal season-best 23 and is now just six shy of 50 in his career.

BILLY BIEDERMANN, (F) GREATER SUDBURY CUBS – Doling out a NOJHL-best seven assists during the time frame helped the Cubs maintain their hold on top spot in the overall league standings.

The 17-year-old forward from Little Current, Ont., began with a personal single-game high four helpers in a home ice triumph over French River Thursday, then set-up three more tallies in a win at Powassan Friday.

Sitting tied for eighth in offensive production so far this season, Biedermann boasts 37 points in 27 outings and has registered 75 in as many NOJHL games in his career.
