SUDBURY, Ont. – The Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League announced Monday that defenceman Felix Cadieux-Fredette (Timmins Rock); goaltender Gavin Disano (Blind River Beavers) and forward Nolan Newton (Greater-Sudbury Cubs) have been named its Eastlink TV 3 Stars of the Week, for the period ending January 29.
FELIX CADIEUX-FREDETTE, (D) TIMMINS ROCK – Providing solid play at both ends of the ice, Cadieux-Fredette collected six assists from the back end in a trio of Timmins triumphs last week while also helping the Rock allow only three markers against.
The 19-year-old blueliner from Ottawa reached the 50-point plateau in his NOJHL career during the time frame, including having a three-assist night, on the road, at Cochrane as part extending a point streak to four in succession.
Timmins is also a solid 15-1-0-2 in games in which Cadieux-Fredette has etched his name on the game sheet, in the point department, this season.
GAVIN DISANO, (G) BLIND RIVER BEAVERS – Making back-to-back starts over the weekend versus divisional rivals, Espanola, and the Soo Eagles, Disano came away victorious in both of them.
Completing his weekend with a 1.50 goals-against average, along with a save percentage of .956, Disano helped his side extend a modest winning streak three and improve to 7-3 in their past 10 outings.
A veteran of 60 NOJHL appearances in his career, the 19-year-old Sault Ste. Marie, Ont., product now has a personal single-season-best 15 victories to his credit, so far in 2022-23.
NOLAN NEWTON, (F) GREATER SUDBURY CUBS – The 17-year-old rookie forward had a pair of goals, including a game-winner, and assisted on another tally to help pace league-leading Greater Sudbury to two more wins and raise their NOJHL-best record to 35-6-2-0.
Included in the efforts by Newton, who hails from French River, was his first-career two-goal game in a win over the Soo Eagles, on Thursday.
He also has eight multi-point performances to date, while three of his eight goals this season have been deciders.
