NOJHL names its Players of the Month for September

SUDBURY, Ont. – The Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League announced Friday its Players of the Month for September.

PLAYER OF THE MONTH: CAMERON LEMCKE, (F) POWASSAN VOODOOS: Beginning the 2021-22 season on a five-game point streak, Lemcke etched his name on the game sheet in each of his club’s victories for the unbeaten Voodoos.

In all, the 18-year-old native of Callander, Ont., notched a trio of tallies and dished out four assists along the way.

One of his goals was a game-winner for Powassan and he also set-up another deciding marker.

His seven points ties him for second in league scoring and he presently leads all NOJHL skaters in power play points with four.

Honourable Mention: Kyler Campbell, (F) Greater Sudbury Cubs; Nicolas Pigeon, (F) Timmins Rock

DEFENCEMAN OF THE MONTH: BRANDON HASS (D) FRENCH RIVER RAPIDS – Pacing all NOJHL defencemen in point-per-game average in the opening month of the campaign at 1.67, Hass doled out five assists for the Rapids in the time frame.

The 18-year-old from Alban, Ont., heads into October sharing the French River lead in offensive production and currently sits tied for second in scoring among league blueliners.

Hass is easily on pace to establish personal single-season bests in both assists and points.

Through his first 66 outings in the NOJHL, he has one tally and 15 helpers to his credit.

GOALTENDER OF THE MONTH: ALEX BUGEJA (G) POWASSAN VOODOOS – Appearing four times in September, the 20-year-old from West Vancouver, B.C., collected wins in each of them, backstopping the high-flying Voodoos to top spot, early in the NOJHL standings.

Of note, all four of Bugeja’s victories came with the Voodoos playing on the road.

Overall, he sports a 2.47 goals-against average along with a solid .930 save percentage.

In his first 17 appearances in the league, Bugeja has a very respectable record of 13-2-0-2.

ROOKIE OF THE MONTH: CHRISTOPHER ENGELBERT, (F) TIMMINS ROCK – It was an impressive start in league play for the 18-year-old from Cobourg, Ont.

Collecting points in each of the Rock’s first four contests, Engelbert scored three times and picked up as many assists, for a six-point run, helping Timmins go 3-0-1-0 for the month.

Two of his tallies were game-winners, which ties him for the league-lead in that department, among all players.

Honourable Mention: Chase MacQueen-Spence, (F) Powassan Voodoos; Samuel Lake, (F) Soo Thunderbirds
