Pair of NOJHL clubs remain in Pointstreak CJHL Top 20 rankings

SUDBURY – Two surging Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League squads continue to be listed among the top sides in the latest Canadian Junior Hockey League Pointstreak Top 20 rankings, which were announced Monday.

Despite having won 12 consecutive games, the Soo Thunderbirds, actually dropped two places in the weekly tabulations slipping from eighth to 10th in the rankings, which are compiled in conjunction with International Scouting Services.

Meanwhile the Kirkland Lake Gold Miners, winners of seven consecutive contests, jumped three slots to No. 12 in the nation.

Sault Ste. Marie and  Kirkland Lake currently share first place in the overall league standings with 28 points each. The 14-2 Thunderbirds also hold one game in hand on the 14-3 Gold Miners.

The hottest side in the 129-team CJHL in the Penticton Vees (BCHL) have won 13 consecutive contests and have surpassed the Portage Terriers (MJHL) for top spot in the overall rankings.

The 2015 RBC Cup host Terriers, who are 18-1-1, are now No. 2 in the CJHL while the 22-4 Carleton Place Canadians stay at No. 3 for another week.
