Powassan humbles French River

POWASSAN, Ont. – The Powassan Voodoos got a goal and four assists each from Cam Moore and Ryan Theriault as they went on to humble the French River Rapids 14-2 Friday in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League play Friday at the Powassan Sportsplex.

First place Powassan took a 2-0 lead after one period of play on tallies from Tyson Gilmour and Dylan D’Agostino.

The Voodoos then took off in the middle stanza that featured an offensive outburst of seven markers.

Kyle Challis, Gary Mantz, Gabriel Rheault, Justin Schebel’s first NOJHL goal, Andy Baker’s league-leading 36th, another by D’Agostino and Shane Beaulieu accounted for the Powassan efforts in the session.

Alex Paul, shorthanded, and Austin Hickner scored for the Rapids in the frame.

The home side then finished off the one-sided decision with five more markers in the third off the sticks of Moore, Theriault while his side was down a man, Cade Herd, Austin Ramirez and Ryan Bazzana to round out the scoring.

Andrew Suriano made 31 stops to pick up the win for Powassan.

Starter Evan Peltier and Korlan Vader, in relief, both saw time in net for French River in the loss facing a combined 58 shots along the way.
