Powassan reaches 35-win plateau for 3rd straight season in victory over Hearst

POWASSAN, Ont. – Shane Beaulieu had a goal and an assist to help lift the Powassan Voodoos to a 4-1 win over the visiting Hearst Lumberjacks in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League action Saturday night at the Powassan Sportsplex.

An early power play helped the Voodoos open the scoring as Beaulieu notched his 18th marker of the season at 4:10 while extending a point streak to seven games in succession along the way.

Cade Herd, who also assisted on the initial tally, notched his 15th goal of the year a minute into the middle session to put the home side up by a pair.

Powassan kept coming and added another before the second stanza was complete compliments of Ryan Theriault at 15:58.

Third period play saw Hearst get on the board 1:45 into the final frame on Evan Look’s first of the season.

However, Voodoos’ rookie forward Quintin Loon-Stewardson answered that nine minutes later with his 15th to cap off his club’s victory.

Christian Cicigoi was the winning goaltender while Matt Kustra suffered the defeat for the Lumberjacks.

With the result, the Voodoos improved to 35-6-1-2 overall while the first-year Lumberjacks slipped to 18-20-2-0.

This marks the third consecutive campaign Powassan has won 35 times or more, coming off a franchise-record 46 victories last season and 40 triumphs in 2015-16.
