ESPANOLA, Ont. – The Powassan Voodoos continue to soar as they racked up their 17th consecutive Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League Friday evening with a 7-1 triumph over the Espanola Express at the Regional Recreation Complex.
Continuing to get offensive production from their entire roster, first-year forward Kaleb McHugh notched his initial NOJHL goal to put the Voodoos in flight at 3:47 of the opening period.
Powassan added another 10 minutes later as Ryan Mills and Cade Herd combined to set-up Parker Bowman for his 19th markers of the campaign.
With the assist, Mills has now recorded at least one point in 14 consecutive games.
The Express power play helped them get on the board late in the first on a Lukas Lyszyk effort.
Action in the middle stanza saw Powassan take control and they collected a trio of tallies to go up 5-1.
After Gregory Trudeau-Paquet added to the lead for the guests, Tomas Yachmenev scored 66 seconds later to give him points in nine straight as well as in 16 of 17 contests so far this season.
Bowman then buried his second of the night and 20th overall on an evening when he set a new personal single-season point total along the way.
In the third, the Voodoos secured the decision early by striking shorthanded off the stick of Brett Shawana before Sam Ellwood added one late to wrap things up.
Luke Greenwood made 25 stops to record the win in net for Powassan while Andrew Rocha was peppered with 53 shots in defeat for Espanola.
