Rayside-Balfour earns 4-1 win over Espanola

CHELMSFORD, Ont. – A Tristan Simm goal 45 seconds into the second period proved to be the game-winner as the Rayside-Balfour Canadians skated to a 4-1 win over the Espanola Express in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League match-up Sunday evening at Chelmsford Arena.

Rayside-Balfour was also quick to begin the scoring in the contest as Jackson Gunner connected 49 seconds after the opening face-off for the lone marker of the first.

Simm then made it 2-0 on the initial shift of the middle session as the home side went up by a pair.

Kyle Fransen’s 11th of the season added to the Canadians lead at 11:23 while Matthew Neault’s 13th overall in the final minute of the session put Rayside-Balfour up by four after 40 minutes.

Espanola would dash Jessie Morin’s shutout bid midway through the third on a Riley Nadeau effort at 9:19 in what turned out to be the final marker of the night.

Morin finished the night with the win however making 19 saves along the way in the triumph.

Kevin Labelle was peppered with 44 shots in defeat for the Express.
