Rayside-Balfour rolls over French River

CHELMSFORD, Ont. – The Rayside-Balfour Canadians got three goals and an assist from Ryan Erickson to help propel them to a convincing 10-2 triumph over the French River Rapids Saturday in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League match-up at Chelmsford Arena.

Rayside-Balfour took control of the contest early grabbing a 4-0 lead after the first period on a pair of markers by Otis Goldman and singles from Makenzie MacMillan and Bradley Chenier.

French River battled back early in the second getting goals from Taylor Karr and Chris Atanas to pull within two.

Regrouping, the Canadians countered by striking three times before the session was complete on efforts courtesy of Erickson, MacMillan and Connor Brown to go up 7-2 through 40 minutes.

Rayside-Balfour then finished off the romp by notching their final three tallies as Erickson struck twice to complete his hat trick while Joel Lemay rounded out the night’s scoring.

Kyle Fransen had four assists for the Canadians in the win while Chenier supplied three of his own.

MacKenzie Savard made 19 saves to pick-up the victory for the home side.

Alec St-Georges saw 41 shots fired his was in defeat for the Rapids.
