Rayside-Balfour slips past Elliot Lake in 2nd OT
CHELMSFORD, Ont. – Chad Denault’s goal a minute and a half into the second overtime was the difference as the Rayside-Balfour Canadians rallied to slip past the Elliot Lake Wildcats 3-2 Sunday evening in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League match-up at Chelmsford Arena.
Special teams allowed the Wildcats to notch the lone marker of the first period as Taylor Woolcott connected on the power play at 9:20.
Elliot Lake then went up a pair with another man advantage effort, which was provided by William Bucsis at 15:08 on the second stanza.
The Canadians got on the board just under two minutes later as Bradey Johnson converted while his side was on the power play.
Rayside-Balfour then forced OT 2:22 into the third on a Noah Serre’s effort.
After a scoreless initial OT, Denault won it for the home side in double extra time to give the Canadians the second point on the night.
Cameron Lamour made 35 saves to pick up the win while Matt Kostiw handled 37 of 40 in helping the Wildcats salvage a point in the contest.
