Rivermen ride Bean’s 4-point afternoon to victory

ESPANOLA – The Espanola Rivermen received four assists from Corbin Bean to help lead them to a 5-2 victory over the visiting Blind River Beavers Sunday afternoon in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League action at the Regional Recreation Complex.

Brennen Dubchak also chipped in with a goal and a helper to aid the Espanola cause while also extending a consecutive game point streak to 18 straight outings while also becoming the first player in the NOJHL to reach the 60-point plateau this season.

Each side scored power play tallies in the opening session with Trevor Simonick connecting for the Beavers and J.T. Walters countering for the Rivermen.

Both teams also supplied one man advantage marker apiece in the middle stanza to level the proceedings after 40 minutes as Matthew Busby found the back of the net for Espanola with Alex Lewicki doing likewise for Blind River.

It was all home side in the final session however as they got a trio of unanswered goals in the period to put it away.

Nathan Campbell notched the eventual game-winner 128 seconds into the frame with Bean then setting up Blake Peavey and Dubchak with a shorthanded effort to round out the scoring.

Marc Terriault made 17 stops to pick up the victory while Jessie Miron faced 39 shots in a losing cause.

With the win Espanola improved to 22-13 on the year while Blind River fell to 5-31-0-2.
