Rock complete weekend sweep of Gold Miners

TIMMINS, Ont. – A Tyler Romain goal early in the third period proved to be the game-winner as the Timmins Rock went on to double up the Kirkland Lake Gold Miners 4-2 Saturday evening in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League preseason contest at McIntyre Arena.

This comes after the Rock skated to a 7-5 road triumph over the Gold Miners Friday.

Kirkland Lake did notch the lone tally of the opening frame as Ashton Amaya finished off a feed from Will Mizuik.

Timmins tied things up past the midway point of the game with Grant McClellan tying things up at 11:49 of the second.

The Rock then took their first lead on the night four minutes later as Marcus Blackned struck shorthanded as they went up 2-1 through two.

After Romain added his marker 1:54 into the third, Timmins got some insurance off the stick of Cole Gilligan half way through the final frame to put the home side in control.

The Gold Miners got one back late thanks to Kevin Ford to round out the night’s scoring.

Matt Nixon picked up the win for the Rock finishing with 35 saves overall.

Tanner Emmerson started for Kirkland Lake and saw nearly 32 minutes of action stopping 15 of the 16 attempts he faced.

Victor-Olivier Courchesne suffered the loss in relief saving 17 of 20 fired his way.
