TIMMINS, Ont. – The Timmins Rock rallied for three unanswered third period tallies to pull out a 5-3 victory over the French River Rapids Saturday in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League action at McIntyre Arena.
The visiting Rapids got on the board first in the contest near the seven-minute mark of the opening frame when defenceman Connor Loft collected his initial NOJHL tally on a power play and extended a modest point streak to three in the process.
French River added another at 11:57 as Christian Gaudreau notched his fourth of the season as his attempt eluded Timmins starter Brendan Bishop.
Countering, the Rock struck twice in an 11-second span to knot the affair at 2-2 thanks to affiliate Austin Holmes’ first in the NOJHL and Alex Brisson’s third of the year.
After a scoreless second frame the Rapids regained the lead with a man advantage early in the third when Jordan Picard picked up his fifth of the season at 1:53.
Coming back again, Timmins tied it once more just over five minutes after that as Shawn Sloan slid in his initial league marker to knot the affair at 3-3.
The Rock then took their first lead 60 seconds after that on Grant McClellan’s game-winner before Derek Seguin iced it with an empty netter in the late going to finish off the come from behind victory.
Bishop made 20 stops to record the win.
Andrew Rocha started for French River and suffered the loss playing the first and third periods handling 16 of the 20 attempts he saw while Spencer Eschyshcyn made nine saves in relief.
