VIDEO: Rock roll over Eagles

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. – Getting two tallies apiece from Lucas Piekarczyk, Nicholas Frederick and Liam Wells sent the Timmins Rock on their way to an 8-1 triumph over the Soo Eagles Saturday evening in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League play at Pullar Stadium.

Timmins got the night’s opening goal 6:43 into the match-up when Rock defenceman Kenyon Nyman let a wrist shot go from the point that sailed through a swarm of bodies in front and eluded Eagles’ netminder Reid Ramsay.

The visitors then went up by a pair, via the power play, when Piekarczyk fired one over Ramsay’s shoulder from the right side.

It was more from the Rock five minutes into the middle frame as Piekarczyk finished off a perfect give-and-go with teammate Nicolas Pigeon for his second of the evening.

Timmins tacked on another, moments into a man advantage, that saw Frederick find himself all alone at the top of the crease and had plenty of time to score.

Sault Ste. Marie opted to make a goaltending change after that, with Logan Raffaele entering the game, but he was greeted with a Wells goal just 10 seconds later as he banked one in off a Justin Charette attempt on target.

After Frederick connected again with the Rock up a skater, by tipping in a Nyman attempt from up high, the Eagles got on the board thanks to Jack Mortson beating Timmins netminder Patrick Boivin.

That Mortson marker was his team-high 10th of the year as he took a cross-ice pass from Nolan Hendry before making a nice move to give him goals in four straight outings.

Salting away the road win early in the third, Wells whipped a shot from the high slot into the top right-hand corner.

They then saw Charette redirect in a Nicholas Moore effort in the final moments to cap off the one-sided result.
