Rock’s Seguin; Canadians’ Lachance; Eagles’ McPhail earn NOJHL 3 Stars honours

SUDBURY, Ont. – The Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League announced Monday that forward Derek Seguin of the Timmins Rock as well as goaltenders Brayden Lachance of the Rayside-Balfour Canadians and Carter McPhail of the Soo Eagles have been named its Eastlink TV Playoffs 3 Stars of the Week for the period ending March 25.

DEREK SEGUIN, (F) TIMMINS ROCK – Seguin was instrumental in helping Timmins pull off the major upset of the defending NOJHL champion Powassan Voodoos in their East Division semifinal series.

In four contests last week the 17-year-old South Porcupine, Ont., product produced six points, including five goals, vs. the Voodoos.

Among his tally totals was a hat trick and two game-winning markers.

Sequin will enter the East Final against Cochrane leading all NOJHL skaters in playoff goals with seven while sitting tied for top spot in postseason points with nine.

BRAYDEN LACHANCE, (G) RAYSIDE-BALFOUR CANADIANS – Manning the nets for Rayside-Balfour last week, Lachance was stellar, especially in the last three games against Blind River as his efforts aided in the Canadians punching their ticket to the league’s West Division final.

During the time frame the 20-year-old netminder from Sudbury went 3-1 to help complete the series triumph over the Beavers while posting a 2.24 goals-against average, a stingy .950 save percentage and one shutout.

In six overall playoff appearances in 2018, Lachance has gone 4-2 and has a .945 save mark.

CARTER MCPHAIL, (G) SOO EAGLES – In four starts for the Eagles against the rival Soo Thunderbirds last week, the 19-year-old Fenton, Mich., native produced three wins against just one defeat while allowing only five goals and recording two shutouts.

In all he had an impressive 1.25 goals-against average along with an equally solid .960 save mark.

McPhail also had a run of 191 minutes and seven seconds of game action without allowing a goal.

Entering Monday’s evening pivotal Game 6 at Pullar Stadium against the Thunderbirds, the Eagles stopper sports a 1.74 GAA and .943 save% in postseason play.
