Romain shines as Timmins tames Cochrane

TIMMINS, Ont. – The Timmins Rock got a pair of goals, including the game-winner, and two assists from Tyler Romain to help them tame the Cochrane Crunch 5-2 in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League play Wednesday night at McIntyre Arena.

The opening 20 minutes saw Timmins jump out to a 2-0 lead on tallies by Jared Hester, via the power play, at 4:53 along with Brendan Campbell at even strength at 13:13.

Action in the middle stanza the Rock’s Romain collect his 18th of the campaign 47 seconds into the frame to make it 3-0 for the home side.

Cochrane started a comeback on the next shift with Bailey Shaver beating Timmins starter Al Rogers at 1:19.

The Crunch then pulled to within one with six and a half minutes left in the period on Joseph Thielen’s first of the season.

However another by Romain early in the third put the Rock up by two and he then helped set-up Jacob Shankar for the night’s final tally midway through the period while Timmins was on a four skaters against three man advantage.

Bain Cunningham also had a solid game for Timmins as he dished out three assists in the victory.

Rogers was called up to make 48 saves, which included 25 alone in the third, for the Rock in recording the triumph while Jacob Burhans faced 37 shots in defeat for Cochrane.

With the result Timmins wins their third consecutive game while improving to 18-6-0-0 on the season and are now just one point behind 16-6-4-1 Cochrane while also holding three games in hand on the Crunch.
