Senecal helps Thunderbirds back into win column

SUDBURY, Ont. – Zach Senecal scored both goals for the Soo Thunderbirds helping them snap a three-game winless drought as they skated to a 2-1 triumph over the Elliot Lake Wildcats Tuesday in Game 5 of the NOJHL Showcase at the Gerry McCrory Countryside Sports Complex.

Senecal’s first of the contest put the Thunderbirds in flight 3:39 into the contest in what was the lone tally of the opening frame.

Heading into the middle session Senecal supplied his second of the game and 11th overall five minutes into the session to put the T-Birds up by two.

Jacob Kelly’s first of the season countered for Elliot Lake at 8:41 in what would be the final marker of the evening.

Matt Caruso assisted on both of Senecal’s efforts.

Brandon Gordon made 17 stops to pick up the win for the Soo.

Matt Kostiw made 37 saves and turned in a solid performance in defeat for the Wildcats.
