IROQUOIS FALLS, Ont. – A solid multi-point performance, that included a pair of tallies, from Lucas Signoretti propelled the Espanola Paper Kings to a 5-1 triumph over the Iroquois Falls Storm in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League meeting Friday night at Jus Jordan Arena.
Espanola got on the board midway through the first period when David Sibilevych pumped a shot on net from the left circle that Iroquois Falls starter Connor Hatfield could not fully control, which allowed Atley Gringorten to pounce and slam in the rebound.
Adding another, while on the power play, Kyle den Ouden stuffed in a rebound off a Signoretti one-timer while parked in front.
Tacking on another during a five-on-three, Signoretti hammered a blast by Hatfield from the top off the right circle off a Spencer Horgan feed.
Espanola then forced a turnover deep in the Iroquois Falls zone which allowed Signoretti to fire one upstairs at 12:44 to make it 4-0 game.
The Paper Kings got another one deep in regulation as Signoretti fed Owen Fergusson in the slot where he put one upstairs on Hatfield.
Heading into the final minute, the Storm finally solved Espanola’s Jake Marois and broke his bid for a shutout when Patrice Lafontaine came in on a two-on-one and elected to shoot, wiring his chance over the glove to start a slew of stuffed toys flying onto the ice as part of the club’s ‘Teddy Bear Toss’ to end the contest on a positive note for the home side.
The victory sees the Paper Kings raise their overall record to 10-5-0-0, while in defeat, Iroquois Falls fell to 5-11-0-0.
