Soo slams Blind River

SAULT STE. MARIE – The Soo Thunderbirds erupted for a dozen goals in their season opener Sunday as they blasted the Blind River Beavers 12-1 Sunday evening in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League action at the John Rhodes Community Centre.

The home side jumped out to a three-tally lead after one period of play on markers by Nicholas Tassone, Nick Sicoly and a shorthanded effort from Brett Jeffries.

Sault Ste. Marie then extended their cushion to 6-1 after 40 minutes getting efforts from Tassone, Sicoly and Matt Caruso while Chris Corgan notched the lone Blind River goal of the night via the power play.

The T-Birds then blew the game open in the final session tacking on another six that found the back of the net.

Tassone and Sicolay finished off hat tricks with Caruso, Matt Pinder, Owen Headrick and Matthew Mitchell supplying the others.

Jaren Bellini chipped in with three assists to aid the Soo offensive cause.
