Soo Thunderbirds move to No. 1 in CJHL rankings
3 other NOJHL clubs also earn recognition

SUDBURY – The surging Soo Thunderbirds are the top ranked team in latest edition of the Canadian Junior Hockey League’s Pointstreak weekly rankings announced Monday while three other Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League clubs garnered recognition.

Sault Ste. Marie was slotted No. 1 in the 131-team CJHL in the listings, which are compiled in conjunction with International Scouting Services.

Meanwhile the Cochrane Crunch were ranked 10th, the Powassan Voodoos 15th and the 2016 Dudley-Hewitt Cup host Kirkland Lake Gold Miners earned honourable mention status.

The NOJHL-leading Thunderbirds have gone 11-0-1-0 in their past dozen outings and 34-3-1-0 overall to top the league standings.

The NOJHL-East leaders in Cochrane dipped two notches to No. 10, but still sport an impressive 29-6-2-2 record.

Powassan, which went 1-1-1 on a three-game road swing over the weekend, stayed in the weekly CJHL rankings and have gone 26-7-3-1 in NOJHL play to date.

Winners of six in succession, Kirkland Lake also earned the attention of the CJHL while posting a 9-1-0-0 mark in their past 10 and raising their record this season to 26-8-2-1.
