Streaking Liarakos leads Blind River past Rayside-Balfour
BLIND RIVER, Ont. – Yianni Liarakos scored the games’ opening goal to help send the Blind River Beavers to a 5-2 victory over the Rayside-Balfour Canadians in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League action Sunday at the Blind River Community Centre.
With his offensive effort, the 20-year-old Toronto product has now etched his name on the score sheet in each of the past 16 games he has played in, which has included 11 multi-point affairs.
Blind River came out flying in this contest as they stormed out to a 3-0 lead after one period of play on power play goals by Liarakos and Caleb Serre along with one at even strength courtesy of Anthony Pullicino.
Kyle Liinamaaa’s fifth of the season put Rayside-Balfour on the board 14:34 into the middle stanza only to see defenceman Cole Peck notch the Beavers’ third man advantage marker of the game in the latter stages of the session.
Danny Lepage got one back for the Canadians 4:12 into the third, however Max Khull secured the decision for the home side as he scored into an empty net with 32 seconds to go to wrap things up.
The victory was the 17th of the campaign for Blind River, which is the most they’ve had in regular season play dating back to 2010-11 when they produced 24.
Shots on goal in the contest favoured the Beavers 41-40 with Myles Hektor making 38 saves to pick up the win while Cameron Lamour had 36 stops in the loss.
