Strong 3rd period propels Crunch to win over Eskis

IROQUOIS FALLS, Ont. – The Cochrane Crunch broke open a third period tie with three unanswered goals to pull out a 7-4 win over the Iroquois Falls Eskis Saturday evening in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League encounter at Jus Jordan Arena.

Cochrane also scored three times in the opening frame while Iroquois Falls picked up a pair.

Taylor Armbruster, Bailey Shaver and Braeden Cross were the Crunch marksmen in the session with Wade Auger and Dillan Bruce connecting for the Eskis.

Auger’s second of the night and 10th of the season tied things up early in the second while Cochrane’s Kyle Herbster and David Stickney of Iroquois Falls traded tallies later in the stanza to knot the affair at 4-4 after 40 minutes.

Action in the final frame saw Cross click for goal No. 31 for the Crunch to put them in front for good at 6:18.

Herbster also added another to give the visitors some insurance before Konnar Dechaine also reached the 31-goal plateau for Cochrane as his shorthanded effort at 16:11 iced it.

Brandon McReynolds and Nicolas Flanders dished out two assist each for the winners.

Shadow Reuben had a couple of helpers for the Eskis.

The Crunch held the edge in shots on goal by a 62-31 margin with Taylor Unruh picking up the victory and Trevor Hawkes the loss.
