Sudbury outlasts Blind River 7-4

BLIND RIVER – The Sudbury Nickel Barons trio of Christopher Rossi, Matt Neault and Ryan Mooney combined for 12 points to help lead them to a 7-4 decision over the Blind River Beaver Saturday in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League action at the Blind River Community Centre.

It took Sudbury just 17 seconds to take the lead as Mooney fired home his second of the campaign.

Blind River countered with a pair of tallies of their own from Austin Lamont and Jake Shultz, on the power play, to go up 2-1.

Midway through the opening frame Danny Lepage knotted the score at 2-2 and Rossi’s first of the evening at 14:07 made it 3-2 after 20 minutes.

Josh Moore extended the Nickel Barons lead four minutes into the second while Alex Hulford brought Blind River to within one at 8:31.

Neault sent Sudbury up 5-3 finishing off the work of Lepage and Rossi, who drew assists on the marker.

Another by Moore three and a half minutes into the final frame added to the Nickel Barons lead before Kyle Huhn had one during a man advantage for the Beavers half way through the third.

Rossi on the power play then finished off his five-point night to conclude the night’s scoring.

Shots on goal in the contest favoured Sudbury 40-36 with Jessie Morin picking up the win and Zach Mills the loss.
