Sudbury slams Elliot Lake 7-2

SUDBURY – Danny Lepage notched a hat trick while August Jarecki rallied twice to help lead the Sudbury Nickel Barons past the visiting Elliot Lake Wildcats 7-2 in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League match-up Wednesday evening at McClelland Arena.

The Sudbury duo both scored in the opening session as the Nickel Barons went up by a pair after 20 minutes.

Jarecki’s second of the night made it 3-0 Sudbury 3:54 into the middle stanza before Wildcats’ affiliate Devyn Martell put Elliot Lake on the board two and a half mintes later to make it a 3-1 game after two periods of play.

The Nickel Barons then broke the contest open striking four times to take control.

Christoper Rossi struck shorthanded early in stanza before Lepage fired home a pair, via the power play, to complete his three-goal night.

Dylan Callaghan then found the mark for his 13th of the campaign to make it 7-1 at 16:43.

Martell added one more for the Wildcats in the final minute to round out the scoring.

Joel Lemay dished out three assists for Sudbury in the victory with Kyle Fransen adding a pair of helpers of his own for the winning side.

Trayvon Henry and Aaron Carmichael chipped in for Elliot Lake by setting up each of Martell’s efforts.

Kevin Labelle stopped 31 shots to record the decision for the Nickel Barons.

Allan Menary started for the Wildcats and suffered the loss allowing three against in just under 24 minutes of work while A.J. Smith allowed four of 26 attempts to get by him in relief.
