Sudbury’s Lefevbre stops 38 to shutout Espanola 1-0

SUDBURY – Sudbury Nickel Barons netminder Andrew Lefevbre stopped all 38 shots he faced to record his first Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League shutout leading his side to a 1-0 victory over the Espanola Rivermen Wednesday evening at McClelland Arena in Copper Cliff.

The only goal of the game would come just 74 seconds after the opening face-off as Martin Jolicoeur finished off the feed of P.J. Lepage.

It was a goaltender’s duel the rest of the way with Lefevbre and Marc Terriault in the Espanola net taking turns keeping opposing shooters at bay the remainder of the contest.

The triumph was the fifth straight for the Nickel Barons stopper.

Terriault suffered the tough-luck loss for the Rivermen as he finished with 28 saves on the night.

The same two teams will meet again Friday at 7:30 p.m. as they wrap-up a home-and-home in Espanola as the Rivermen look to lockdown the No. 3 overall seed for the upcoming playoffs.

That contest is one of three league games on the slate Friday with North Bay taking on Blind River at 7 p.m. in one and Kirkland Lake heading to Elliot Lake in the other at 7:30 p.m.
