Thunderbirds add netminder Culina

SAULT STE. MARIE, Ont. — The Soo Thunderbirds of the Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League have announced they have signed goaltender Mario Culina for the upcoming season.

The 17-year-old native of Sault Ste. Marie joing the T-Birds after playing AAA major midget last season with the Waterloo Wolves.

In 16 league games Culina posted an impressive 1.89 goals-against average along with a stingy .921 save percentage.

He previously played for the Soo Thunder Minor Midget AAA program.  

“Mario is a quality person and a very good goaltender that has a great deal of upside,” offered Thunderbirds general manage Kevin Cain on his club’s latest signing.

“We are thrilled to get Mario signed and welcome him to the Soo Thunderbirds family,” added Cain.
