Thunderbirds’ Boman named to CJHL Prospects Game Team East roster

SUDBURY, Ont. – The Canadian Junior Hockey League, in partnership with NHL Central Scouting, announced Wednesday that Soo Thunderbirds defenceman Caleb Boman was among those named to the Team East roster for the upcoming CJHL Prospects Game, which goes Jan. 26 in Surrey, B.C.

The 18-year-old Sault Ste. Marie, Ont., product is currently in his second season in the NOJHL with his hometown Thunderbirds.

Boman leads all defencemen on the T-Birds in offensive production with 37 points on nine goals and 27 assists in 31 games.

Those totals are also the second most among all blueliners in the NOJHL.

His tally total has matched a career single-season high and he has already surpassed his assist and point totals from a year ago.

Boman also earlier committed to attend Niagara University in New York State to play in NCAA Division I hockey on scholarship for the Purple Eagles.

He also suited up for Team NOJHL at the Eastern Canada Junior A Challenge in Cornwall, Ont., and was named to the Team Canada’s East Selection Camp roster for the recently held World Junior A Challenge.

“We at the NOJHL wholeheartedly congratulate Caleb on this significant achievement,” offered league Commissioner Robert Mazzuca.

“To be selected as one of the top prospects in the entire 131-team CJHL is a tremendous accomplishment for him and we’re sure he will represent himself, the Soo Thunderbirds and the NOJHL with the utmost class and skill that he has shown right from the onset when he joined our league,” added Mazzuca.

The CJHL Prospects Game was created to showcase the top NHL prospects in the CJHL as identified by NHL Central Scouting.

The game features players from the CJHL’s five western leagues (BCHL, AJHL, SJHL, MJHL, SIJHL) competing against players from the CJHL’s five eastern leagues (NOJHL, OJHL, CCHL, QJHL, MHL).

The winning team is awarded the President’s Cup.

Player selection for the annual CJHL Prospects Game is a joint initiative of the CJHL and NHL Central Scouting.
