Thunderbirds double up Beavers 4-2

SAULT STE. MARIE, Ont. – The Soo Thunderbirds got a goal and an assist from Sean Emmerson to help them double up the Blind River Beavers 4-2 Wednesday evening in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League contest held at the John Rhodes Community Centre.

After a scoreless opening 20 minutes, Sault Ste. Marie would strike three times in the middle stanza to get the jump on Blind River.

Austin Kozluk started things off for the Thunderbirds by notching his 19th goal of the season 90 seconds into the period.

Two minutes later while the Soo was on the power play, Emmerson added to the lead to put the home side up by a pair.

The T-Birds kept coming and supplied another when Emmerson fed Ryan Waterhouse for his 13th of the campaign and the eventual game-winner.

Blind River did get one back before the frame was complete as Zac Lambrecht notched his 25th for the Beavers at 17:55.

Lambrecht then tacked on his second of the night four minutes into the third to make it 3-2, but the Soo came right back and collected their second man advantage marker of the contest 51 seconds later when Keegan Stevenson picked up his ninth to add some insurance and round out the scoring.

Shots on goal on the night favoured the Thunderbirds by a 39-29 count with Brandon Gordon picking up the win and Myles Hektor the loss.
