Thunderbirds double up Voodoos 6-3

SAULT STE. MARIE – Joey Miller and Caleb Bowman both tallied twice to help lift the Soo Thunderbirds to a 6-3 victory over the Powassan Voodoos in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League contest held at Essar Centre.

Each side would score twice in the opening 20 minutes with Miller and Matt Pinder connecting for Sault Ste. Marie while Kyle Moore and Steve Harland countered for Powassan.

Harland assisted on the Moore marker before his own effort to extend a consecutive game point streak to 21 straight outings.

The visiting Voodoos grabbed a 3-2 lead early in the middle session thanks to Jake Staples goal only to see Brett Jeffries answer back for the T-Birds just over a minute later.

The Soo took the lead for good near the midway point of the contest as Miller potted his second of the evening in what turned out to be the game-winning goal.

A Bowman man advantage effort in the latter stages of the period put the home team up by two entering the third.

Bowman added one more in the third to wrap things up offensively on the night.

Boris Katchouck and Eric Hillock both chipped in with two assists apiece to aid the Thunderbirds in the victory.

Brian Kment turned aside 25 of 28 attempts fired his way to pick up the win while Matt Young faced 40 shots in defeat for the Voodoos.
