Thunderbirds extend winning streak to 11

BLIND RIVER – Continuing to roll along the Soo Thunderbirds picked up their 11th Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League win in a row Saturday evening after besting the Blind River Beavers 7-2 at the Blind River Community Centre.

Jared Binguis staked the Beavers to an early lead as he beat Thunderbirds starter Brian Kment 68 seconds after the opening face-off.

Sault Ste. Marie responded with markers courtesy of Matt Caruso and Nicolas Tassone to go up by one through the opening session.

After Tassone struck shorthanded 8:35 into the second with team-leading 12th tally of the season, Nathan Hans added one for Blind River, via the power play, midway through the contest.

The T-Birds added to their lead with 5:58 to go in the second to go up 4-2 after 40 minutes.

They then put the game away in the third tacking on three more to round out the scoring with Joey Ogden, Caleb Boman and Anthony Miller all finding the back of the net.

Ogden and Boris Katchouk both added two assists apiece to help out offensively.

Kment finished with 20 saves is securing the win for the Thunderbirds and Daniel Potter faced 36 shots in defeat in his Blind River debut.
