Thunderbirds’ Headrick named NOJHL playoff MVP

SAULT STE. MARIE – The Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League announced Sunday evening that Soo Thunderbirds defenceman Owen Headrick has been named the NOJHL’s most valuable player in the playoffs.

The announcement was made following game 5 of the NOJHL’s Copeland Cup – McNamara Trophy final, which Sault Ste. Marie won 5-3 and they claimed the league title in five games taking the best-of-seven final 4-1.

In 14 postseason contests Headrick, who hails from nearby Garden River, Ont., was outstanding, amassing 20 points in total on 12 tallies and eight assists.

He also finished the playoffs riding a 10-game point streak, which paced all league skaters.

Headrick’s offensive numbers also led all NOJHL defencemen while finishing tied for his team lead in scoring and finishing knotted for third in league playoff production in.

Headrick and his Thunderbirds’ teammates will now advance to represent the NOJHL at the Dudley-Hewitt Cup Central Canada Jr. A Championship, April 28 through May 2 in Fort Frances, Ont.
