Thunderbirds’ Michael Caruso named NOJHL playoff MVP
KIRKLAND LAKE, Ont. – The Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League has announced that Soo Thunderbirds defenceman Michael Caruso has been named the 2016 playoffs most valuable player for his efforts during the postseason.
The veteran Thunderbirds blueliner was instrumental on both ends of the ice in helping Sault Ste. Marie capture the NOJHL Copeland Cup – McNamara Trophy league championship over the Kirkland Lake Gold Miners.
Not only was Caruso stellar defensively for the T-Birds, he also supplied 11 points in 13 playoff contests on five goals and six assists.
His tally total led all NOJHL defenceman in the postseason and also finished with the second-highest point total among rearguards.
With the league title secured, Caruso and the rest of his Soo teammates will now prepare to defend their Dudley-Hewitt Cup Central Canadian Jr. A championship the Thunderbirds they won a year ago in Fort Frances, Ont., as they head to this years’ event, which goes May 3-7 in Kirkland Lake.
