Thunderbirds’ Villalta added to Team East for CJHL Prospects Game

SUDBURY, Ont. – The Canadian Junior Hockey League has announced that Soo Thunderbirds defenceman Wyatt Villalta is one of three players added to the Team East roster for the upcoming CJHL Prospects Game on Jan. 25 in Cornwall, Ont.

Villalta now joins fellow Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League players in forward Andy Baker and goaltender Nate McDonald of the Powassan Voodoos on the Team East roster for the contest.

The 17-year-old Godfrey, Ont., product was added to Team East after being identified by National Hockey League Central Scouting to take the place of another blueliner who left his CJHL side to join the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League.

In 21 games with Sault Ste. Marie, the stay-at-home defenceman has one goal and one assist for the Thunderbirds so far this season.

“We congratulate Wyatt on his addition to the CJHL Prospects Game and we expect him along with Andy Baker and Nate McDonald to showcase our league at the highest level,” stated NOJHL Commissioner.

“As the first alternate selected on defence by NHL Central Scouting to be added to Team East, it once again shows the attention and recognition the NOJHL is continuing to receive at the national level,” added Mazzuca.

The CJHL Prospects Game gets underway at 7:30 p.m. at Ed Lumley Arena in Cornwall and will be streamed online at HockeyTV.com.
