FRENCH RIVER – The Timmins Rock tallied three times in each period as they went on to swamp the French River Rapids 9-1 in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League action Saturday at Noelville Arena.
Pressuring an early turnover, Timmins got going offensively as Reece Liu tipped in a Ryan Armitage chance from in close on French River netminder Carter Vicente for his first NOJHL goal.
The Rapids answered with an equalizer at 5:45 when Michael Christopoulos got a piece of a Gavin Haslam shot from the right point with bodies battling in front of a screened Rock netminder, Dryden Riley.
Retaking the lead during a man advantage deep into the session, Timmins’ Jack Kelly moved into the left circle and snapped in his second in as many games.
Bagging another just before the period expired, the Rock’s Brant Romaniuk was set-up by Lucas Lowe and took his time before putting one upstairs on Vicente.
In the second stanza, the guests clicked early on with Hayden Rynard pumping a Thomas Beard pass top shelf.
Timmins kept coming and tacked on two more before the intermission.
Ryan Boon supplied their fifth on the night by stuff in a loose puck laying near the goal line, while Kaeden McArthur extended the cushion as Lowe sent him in alone on a clear-cut breakaway and neatly tucked a backhand through the legs of Vicente.
The onslaught continued in the third with Beard, McArthur and Aaron Shaw, with a goal in his NOJHL debut, all scoring to finish off the one-sided result.
