TIMMINS, Ont. – A three-goal, first period outburst sent the Timmins Rock in their way to a convincing 6-1 victory over the Blind River Beavers in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League action Friday at McIntyre Arena.
Timmins began the scoring while shorthanded, just over nine minutes into the match-up, as Kaeden McArthur generated a turnover in the neutral zone, then raced up ice and left a drop pass to Thomas Beard, who shovelled in a backhand on Blind River netminder Carson Hauger.
Another from the Rock a couple of shifts later featured Brant Romaniuk connecting at 10:57 by knocking in a second chance in close off a feed from Lucas Lowe below the goal line.
A third before the first intermission saw the home side extend their cushion when McArthur found Romaniuk from behind the net and saw him lift in a backhand for his second of the session.
A fourth on the night, early in the middle stanza, saw Braedyn Cyr bank one in off a defender’s skate from a sharp angle just after a power play they were on had expired in eluding Connor Dunham-Fox who had replaced Hauger to begin the period.
Some crisp puck movement on a man advantage upped the Timmins lead to five when Beard knocked in his second of the evening.
Extending their cushion in the third, Matthew Kim wired one home while moving in from the point into the high slot.
Blind River eventually dashed the shutout bid of the Rock’s Frédéric Cousineau, who was making his league debut, as Ryder Hill collected a turnover behind the Timmins net and sent in front that Jonah McIndoo collected it and tucked in and backhand while moving to his right.
That proved to be the evening’s final offensive effort as Timmins skated off with the home-ice win.
