Timmins tops Iroquois Falls 6-2

IROQUOIS FALLS, Ont. – The Timmins Rock tallied twice in each period and notched four power play goals along the way as they went on to defeat the Iroquois Falls Eskis 6-2 Wednesday evening in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League encounter at Jus Jordan Arena.

Jacob Shankar got the Rock on the board four and a half minutes into the contest only to see Blake Holowaty knot the affair for the Eskis at the 7:38 mark of the first.

Iroquois Falls came right back and added another just 15 seconds later when Wade Auger collected his first of the season.

Timmins rebounded with the equalizer thanks to the power play as Cory Sprague notched a man advantage effort at 12:12.

The Rock went back in front for good with a pair of second period strikes, while up a man, off the sticks of Shankar and Tyler Romain under two minutes apart.

Carrying a 4-2 lead into the final frame, Timmins put it away with their fourth power play goal of the night from Jared Hester at 6:16 before Marcus Blackned rounded out the scoring at 8:59.

Blackned, Romain and Jordan Rendle each dished out two assists to aid in the triumph for the visitors while David Osborne had a pair of helpers for Iroquois Falls.

Shots on goal favoured the Eskis by a 39-25 count with Caleb Barris picking up the win.

Trevor Hawkes started for the home side and suffered the loss allowing the six against on 22 attempts.

Artem Bortovskiy meanwhile handled all three attempts he faced in 11 minutes of relief.
