TIMMINS, Ont. – Josh Dickson notched the lone goal in the first shootout in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League play this season as the Timmins Rock edged the Rayside-Balfour Canadians 4-3 Saturday at McIntyre Arena in front of 768 fans.

Derek Seguin started the Rock off on the right note as he scored for a third straight outing with his latest effort coming at 6:16.

It stayed that way until the latter stages of the second stanza when the two sides erupted for four goals in a two and a half-minute span.

After Keegan McMullen upped the Rock lead to 2-0 at 15:16, the Canadians connected twice in rapid succession courtesy of Christopher Clark and Evan Krassey to knot the score.

However, Timmins came right back to regain the lead before the session expired as Riley Robitaille picked up his first at 17:54 to make it 3-2 Rock after two.

The back and forth affair saw the Canadians level the proceedings in the third on Benjamin Hatanaka’s opening NOJHL goal, which came with 7:03 remaining in regulation to help send it to overtime.

After the five-minute OT solved nothing, extra shots were required for the first time this season.

There, the Rock’s Josh Dickson would notch the only tally, which came on Timmins’ initial attempt as he made a couple of head fakes and slid his shot through the legs of Rayside-Balfour netminder Jean-Marc Brisson.

Rock starter Nicholas Dicks stood tall in the shootout stopping all three attempts he faced along with 34 more during the game to record the victory.

Brisson finished with 41 saves in defeat for the Canadians in helping his side pick up a point.
