Trappers roll over Bobcats
NORTH BAY – The North Bay Trappers struck quickly and never looked back en route to a 7-1 victory over the Elliot Lake Bobcats Thursday in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League action at Memorial Gardens.
Tait Seguin opened the scoring just 35 seconds into the contest to send the Trappers on their way.
Brennen Dubchak and Stephen Langford tacked on additional tallies before the opening session was out to put the home side up 3-0 after 20 minutes.
North Bay blew the contest open in the middle session notching three more markers off the sticks of Connor Gilmartin, Duane Wainman and Devan Turcotte.
Elliot Lake put an end to Greg Dodds’ shutout bid 4:15 into the third period courtesy of a Brad Hollman effort.
Graham Pickard finished up the night’s scoring with a late goal to complete the romp.
Trevor Hunt and Langford also chipped in with a pair of assists apiece to aid the offensive cause.
Dodds finished up with 24 saves to pick up the win as the Trappers moved into a first place tie in the standings with the Soo Thunderbirds as both sides have 37 points apiece with the T-Birds holding two games in hand.
Thomas Graham was peppered with 53 shots in a losing cause for the Bobcats who fell to 5-15-0-1 on the campaign.
NOJHL play continues Friday with Elliot Lake looking to get back on track as they host Kirkland Lake in a 7:30 p.m. start at Centennial Arena.
