Trappers trim Rivermen 3-1

NORTH BAY – Zachary Shakar scored the game-winner and added an assist to lead the North Bay Trappers to a 3-1 triumph over the visiting Espanola Rivermen Sunday afternoon in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League action at West Ferris Arena.

North Bay notched the lone goal of the opening period at the 7:23 mark courtesy of Ryan Demyen’s team-leading 24th tally of the season.

Shankar, who helped set-up Demyen’s marker, made it 2-0 for the home side 49 seconds into the middle session as he beat Espanola starter William King.

The Rivermen cut the deficit in half before the stanza was complete when Nathan Campbell buried his seventh of the campaign.

Blake Peavey and Brennen Dubchak drew assists on the play with Dubchak extending an impressive consecutive game point streak to 27 straight as a result.

The final frame saw Henry Yawit ice it with a power play marker in the late going to seal the victory for North Bay.

Evan Cormier was solid stopping 39 of the 40 shots fired his way in picking up the win in net for the Trappers.

King suffered the loss for Espanola as he faced 25 attempts in defeat.

One other NOJHL contest is on the docket Sunday evening as well as Elliot Lake hosts Sudbury.
