Trio of NOJHL clubs among CJHL winning percentage leaders

SUDBURY, Ont. – Of the top 20 teams, in terms of winning percentage, in the Canadian Junior Hockey League three Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League clubs are on the list.

The surging Soo Thunderbirds, who have won five straight and have gone 17-1 in their past 18 outings, boast the top win mark in the NOJHL at .917.

That number is the second highest in the 131-team CJHL trailing only the Penticton Vees (BCHL), who sit at .931 while having gone an impressive 27-2 to date.

Sault Ste. Marie is a solid 22-2 in their first two dozen NOJHL contests this season as the defending league and Dudley-Hewitt Cup champions take to the ice tonight in their 25th game of the season at Elliot Lake vs. the Wildcats.

The T-Birds were tabbed second in the most recent CJHL Pointstreak Top 20 rankings.

A pair of other NOJHL sides are playing over .800-hockey so far this season with the Powassan Voodoos sitting at .813 while the Cochrane Crunch are at .804, which ranks them ninth and 11th overall in CJHL winning percentage heading into action Friday evening.

The Voodoos were also slotted ninth in the latest CJHL rankings while the Crunch were tabbed 13th.

Both second-year clubs have had solid first halves in league play having 40 wins between them and only four losses, in regulation time, each.

Powassan will go in search of their 20th victory tonight in Espanola as they attempt to derail the Express and Cochrane looks for their 22nd triumph as they host the Soo Eagles at the Tim Horton Event Centre.
