Unbeaten Voodoos move to 14-0-0-0
POWASSAN, Ont. – The red-hot Powassan Voodoos received multi-point games from seven different players to help them roll to their 14th consecutive Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League victory as they thumped the Blind River Beavers 8-3 Friday at the Powassan Sportsplex.
Powassan took control of the contest early grabbing a 3-0 lead after one period of play on markers by Nicholas Siracuse, Bo Peltier and Tyler Peters.
The Voodoos tacked on two more before the five-minute mark of the middle stanza thanks to Alexi Rivet and Nathaniel McLeod, which spelled the end to Blind River starter Martin Miloslavich’s night in favour of Maxwell Barr.
The Beavers got on the board later in the frame getting tallies 80 seconds apart from Nathan Hans and Cole Murray to make it a 5-2 game.
Powassan answered that however with two more of their own thanks to Steve Harland, who notched goals nine and 10 of the season as the home side went up by five after 40 minutes.
Rivet added his second of the evening with a power play effort at 1:51 before Blind River’s Austin Hicknet rounded out the scoring with a man advantage marker of his own with 6:50 to go to round out the scoring.
Included in the result Peters extended a point streak to 14 straight games while Harland ran his to 17 consecutive outings dating back to last season.
Harland, McLeod, Peters, Tyler Gervais-Rolfe, Nicky Grose and McKenzie Gray each chipped in with two assists apiece as Powassan improved to 14-0-0-0 on the season.
Mario Cavaliere made 28 saves and also picked up an assist for the Voodoos in the win.
Miloslavich and Barr combined to face 41 shots in defeat for the Beavers, who saw their record slip to 3-15-1-0.
