Voodoos ink GNML top scorer

POWASSAN — The Powassan Voodoos stayed close to home for the Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League’s expansion team’s second signing in team history.

The Voodoos signed North Bay Midget AAA Trappers graduate Nathaniel McLeod, a skilled, hard-working forward who registered 33 goals and 18 assists for 51 points in 30 regular season games, in the Great North Midget League last season.

The Great North Midget League’s top scorer joins the league’s top defensemen and Trappers teammate Josh Ibbitson, who signed late last week with the Voodoos.

“We are thrilled to bring in a talent like Nathaniel,” said GM/VP of Hockey Operations Chris Dawson about the Sturgeon Falls product.

“As an expansion club we need to secure good local talent and Nathan McLeod is certainly a fine local talent,” added Dawson who expects to announce another local signing later in the week, prior to the teams Free Agent Camp which takes place at Pete Palangio arena this weekend.

McLeod, who was courted by a number of other Junior ‘A’ teams in Ontario, is excited about his decision to play close to home.

“I really like the close support we will have with the Battalion and having a lot of the fan support, it will be a good opportunity I think to play with the Voodoos, possibly having opportunities with the Battalion and moving forward in hockey,” said McLeod about the opportunity to play with the Voodoos, who are affiliated with the North Bay Battalion.
