POWASSAN, Ont. – The Powassan Voodoos of the Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League has announced that forward Chase MacQueen-Spence has signed a standard player’s agreement, including an education package, with the OHL’s North Bay Battalion.
He has gotten off to a tremendous start with the Voodoos, producing at a point-per-game clip, scoring three times and doling out five assists for eight points in as many outings. He is expected to remain with the club for the time being.
“Chase came in right from the start of camp and impressed with his speed and skill,” Battalion general manager Adam Dennis said of the five-foot-nine, 150-pound London, Ont., resident.
“He’s continued that with Powassan, and we look forward to helping him with his development.”
As for the move, Voodoos’ GM Chris Dawson offered: “This is what the affiliation is all about. We are very happy that the Battalion organization is so pleased with his progress that they have decided to sign him,” added Dawson.
“We hope he continues to grow this season while playing with us and possibly getting in some action with the big club as well.”
MacQueen-Spence is ready to work as he aims to get to the OHL.
“Signing with the Battalion is an unbelievable feeling and is something I’ve worked for my entire hockey career,” he stated. “I’m looking forward to what the future holds with the team.”
He went on to add: “I plan on bringing my skill, work ethic and winning mentality to the team and doing whatever it takes to help the team win.”
The 16-year-old forward was taken by North Bay in the fourth round of the 2021 OHL Priority Selection from the Elgin-Middlesex Chiefs under-16 side.
MacQueen-Spence is the second Voodoos player to sign with a OHL team this season as defenseman Ryan O’Dell signed a deal with the Oshawa Generals, back in September.
