Voodoos’ netminder Forrest involved in OHL deal
POWASSAN, Ont. – The Powassan Voodoos of the Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League announced Monday that goaltender Garrett Forrest was involved in an Ontario Hockey League deal involving the North Bay Battalion and the Flint Firebirds.
Forrest was his OHL rights shipped to Flint along with a fourth round pick in 2017 for overage netminder Brent Moran, who is expected to be North Bay’s No. 1 goalkeeper.
As for Forrest, the 19-year-old spent the 2015-16 campaign with the Battalion’s affiliate club in Powassan where he finished second among NOJHL goaltenders in wins with 24.
Forrest, who hails from Ashburn, Virg., led all league netminders in save percentage at .926 and finished third in goals-against average at 2.28.
The rookie stopper faced the third-most shots at 1,196 and also had the third-most minutes played at 2,148.
His five shutouts were the most in the NOJHL and he also represented his team and the league at the Eastern Canada Cup Challenge.
Forrest’s on-ice efforts earned him league CCM Hockey first team all-star laurels this past season.
He was a 10th round pick of North Bay in the 2013 OHL Priority Selection.
