Voodoos outlast Rock 7-5

POWASSAN, Ont. – The Powassan Voodoos got three-goal, one-assist nights from both Tyler Peters and Michael Silveri to aid in a 7-5 triumph over the Timmins Rock Friday in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League encounter at the Powassan Sportsplex.

Peters kicked off the scoring 5:06 into the contest only to see Timmins counter with one of their own 41 seconds later thanks to Zachary Kercz, who collected his 24th of the season.

The Rock then went up 2-1 after one period of play on a Joe Olson effort at 16:53.

It was all Powassan in the middle session however as they tacked on three straight markers that featured a pair by Silveri sandwich around one by Peters to make it 4-2 Voodoos through 40 minutes.

Silveri capped off his hat trick 1:16 into the third as he reached the 26-goal plateau on the campaign.

Alexandre Brisson came right back with one of his own for Timmins 19 seconds after that to pull the visitors back to within two.

The back and forth affair saw Powassan’s Tyler Gervais-Rolfe and the Rock’s Nicholas Hautanen later exchange markers while Timmins Tristan Salesse brought the guests back to 6-5 with 2:33 remaining in regulation.

The Rock pulled netminder Logan Ferrington in favour of an extra attacker in an effort to send the contest to overtime, but Peters iced it with an empty netter to secure the Voodoos victory.

Jordan Rendle had four assists in a losing cause for Timmins.

Garrett Forrest made 40 stops to register the win for Powassan and Ferrington handled 44 of 50 in defeat for Timmins.
